Opening Celebration & Show
First Thursday, April 7th,
6 – 8 pm
Strands of dentalium shell, strings of glass beads and pendants of fossil ivory artifacts embellish the glittering jewelry made by Janet and Owen Walker. Known for their exquisite metalsmith work, the Walkers turn to the antique trade beads of the Northwest, utilizing their bold colors and unique shapes to create exquisite adornment.
Owen & Janet Walker: Lecture
Beads of the American Fur Trade
April 10th, 2011, Sunday 2pm
Artists and trade bead collectors, Owen and Janet Walker, will discuss the history of trade beads; their identity, origin, manufacture, use, and how they got to the Pacific Northwest.
Here’s a chance for anyone who has what they think are trade beads to bring them to the Stonington and we’ll take a look and possibly give you some names of the beads that you have. It will be fun! Kinda’ like the antique road show!!!
