Jacek Szewczyk and I were guests of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where I gave a lecture to demonstrate the ‘mezzotint’ printing technique. My friend Mel from Toledo, Ohio drove to Muncie to pick us up and take us to Toledo, Ohio. It was a sentimental journey for me since I haven’t seen this area in about 40 years. Not much has changed, the river is still brown with clay silt, the land is still flat and the old farmhouses are still beautiful. It was a four hour drive and it brought back many memories from my youth. With the economic downturn things have changed in this part of the Midwest. What hasn’t changed is the land, the people and the friendliness.
Luckily we were between snowstorms, the night we arrived in Toledo four inches of snow fell and it got cold. The first thing we did was go to a good Mexican restaurant. Mexican food is hard to find in Poland so we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Margaritas were good too.
Wonderful! It’s good to travel back to old stomping grounds now and then. Lotsa’ food for thought!
