Crayon On Canvas
This is an experimental work I did to try cheap oil pastels on canvas. I have been working with chalk pastel for forever. Though my favorite medium, properly storing and framing, let alone shipping can be dangerous to the work. Cheap oil pastels are around $6 for a set of 24 where very nice ‘buttery’ oil pastels can be $25 or more for the same assortment. Oil pastels can also be difficult as a medium because they never dry as oil paint would, so when framed or shipped, should be protected with glass. The cheaper pastel is more rigid, like a crayon, so will resist spearing when touched, but color depth is good like the softer, higher priced ones and are difficult on highly textured surfaces. As imagined, using, basically a crayon, on frame backed canvas is a little like chalk on a moving sidewalk but with a little turpentine I was able to work it out, kind of. I used a photo of a friend fro Facebook for reference.

This is fun!!! Let’s see more!
I like the softness of the look on this subject, very nice (and good info).
Thanks,
Pam
I don’t remember how many years I have know you and this is the first piece of your art work I have seen! It is very good! Granted it is an experiment, but I think you have “got it”!
